The VMI Commanders Big Band

The Frank C. Godfrey, American Legion Post 12 was honored to have the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Commanders Big Band perform at a special dinner dance on January 29, 2017. The band, led by Colonel John Brodie, has a rich history of performances. The ensemble, originated by cadets in 1917 was originally known as the Ramblin’ Keydets,” and was renamed the “Commanders” in 1931.In recent years the band has entertained in Paris, and Munich. In October 2016 the band played to a sold out audience in the National Theatre in Richmond, VA.

The dinner was well attended, and the band was magnificent.

A special thank you goes to Steve Nezas, VMI Alumnus, and to Irene Dixon, Assistant City Clerk of Norwalk for their efforts in bringing this wonderful and historic band to the Legion.

Additional thanks to our chefs who provided a wonderful dinner: Stan Remson, John Fusco, Ed Monroe and Charlie Williams. Also, thank you to our volunteers who attended to the guests during dinner.
